Since the Municipal Administrative Sanction of 24 June 2013, municipalities can also sanction certain infringements previously handled by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. If a minor commits the infringements, the Public Prosecutor’s Office continues to follow up the case.

General regulations: these lay down the various aspects of the procedure for infringements of one of the provisions of the police regulations or regulations of the City of Ghent that may give rise to the imposition of a municipal administrative sanction.

Codex: this provides a total overview of the conduct that can give rise to the imposition of a municipal administrative sanction on the territory of Ghent.

Protocol agreement: concluded between the Mayor and his deputees and the Public Prosecutor. It clarifies the cooperation between the two parties and the regulations governing mixed offences. This agreement also lays down the conditions for the imposition of a municipal administrative sanction.
